Persuasive Writing
What is the goal of persuasive writing?
To state the writer's opinions
To give reasons why the reader should agree
To convince the reader to take action
How to write persuasively...
1.) Introduce the thesis statement, clearly stating your positions. You may include a preview of why you hold this belief.
2.) Place the topic in some context. Provide some background to the issue.
3.) Provide accurate, relevant, and complete evidence. Consider using facts, statistics, reasons, and examples to support your position.
4.) Try to avoid faulty reasoning. Readers will notice when the evidence you include does nor prove your point.
5.) Anticipate and disprove any contradictory arguments. Don't "bash" opposing position, but help the reader see the logic, fairness and reasonableness of your position.
6.) Restate your position in your conclusion.
