- Anarchy
- N. - a situation of confusion and wild behavior in which the people in a country, group, organization, etc., are not controlled by rules or laws
- The movie, The Purge: Anarchy, is about people revolting against the government
- Antithesis
- N. - The act opposite of something or someone
- That group of people are the antithesis of the group beside them
- Apathetic
- Adj. - Not having or showing much emotion or interest
- To the people I dislike the most is the when my face shows I’m apathetic
- Apex
- N. – the top or highest point of something
- Mount Everest is the apex of all mountains in the world
- Apocryphal
- Adj. – well-known but probably not true
- The people were unsure for who was apocryphal between the two groups
- Ardor
- N. – strong feeling of energy or eagerness
- After Halloween with loads of candy in my system I tend to get ardor
- Articulate
- Adj. – able to express ideas clearly and effectively in speech or writing
- She was the opposite of an intelligent and articulate person
- Aspire
- V. – to want to have or achieve something (such as particular career or level of success
- They wanted to aspire the people to run faster to the ice cream

- V. – to learn something so that it is fully understood and can be used
- The students couldn’t fully assimilate the lesson after the teacher explained ten times

- V. – to make (something, such as an unpleasant feeling) less painful or severe; make easier
- They hoped the company would make the instructions on the products more assuage

- Adj. – having or showing an ability to notice and understand things clearly
- The ability to astute wasn’t made in their system so they lost

- N. – a very cruel or terrible act or action
- The Paris attacks that had occurred on Friday, November 13th were an atrocity

- Adj. – very confident or daring
- I attempted to be audacious to help the bird until it suddenly flew and nearly pecked my face

- V. – to increase size or amount
- I was debating whether I should augment the size of the jar full of candy with more or not
- Avert
- Turn (your eyes, gaze, etc.) away or aside
- Seeing the strange man wearing clothing I cannot describe in this sentence, I averted my eyes away from him
- Avid
- Adj. – very eager
- The little boy was avid to eat his slice of pizza
- Avuncular
- Adj. - Helpful, friendly
- The strangers living in our house were avuncular until they were arrested.

- Adv. – not working correctly or happening in the expected way
- What happened between the group was awry due to the outcome because one hated the other
- Banter
- V. – to speak to or address in a witty and teasing manner
- The banter of his tone taunted me with the choice of words
- Barter
- V. - To exchange things (such as products or services) for other things instead of for money
